On Thursday, March 1, 2018, faculty, staff and guests of the Donald and Barbara School of Medicine were pleased to honor members of our current fourth year class who were inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society. AOA is a professional medical organization that recognizes and advocates for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine.
The top 25 percent of a medical school class is eligible for nomination to the society, and up to 16 percent may be elected based on leadership, character, community service, and professionalism. Our student inductees include:
Induction ceremony festivities included a lecture from visiting professor, Eve Higginbotham, Vice Dean for Inclusion and Diversity and professor of ophthalmology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, who encouraged students to be change agents and the leaders of change. Dr. Higginbotham also stressed the importance of open discussions about diversity and inclusion.
